Florian Zobel
As part of the Biotechnology, Chemistry & Pharmaceuticals team at D Young & Co I have the privilege to apply my background in molecular cell biology and passion for gene editing and cancer immunology technologies to help our clients achieve and retain protection for their most priced inventions.
Since joining D Young & Co in 2024, I have been exposed to a broad range of technologies including virus-based vector systems, multiplex sequencing technologies, new drug and antibody combinations as well as gene and stem cell therapies.
In my everyday work I am very fortunate to be able to draft and prosecute European patent applications on the basis of these exiting technologies. Beyond Europe, I have instructed prosecution in foreign jurisdictions including the US, Korea and Japan, which has allowed me to appreciate critical strategic differences in achieving patent protection across a number of jurisdictions. I have also been involved in opposition and appeal work in writing and have in the past attended oral proceedings before the opposition division and the Boards of Appeal.
I completed an MSc by Research in Biochemistry and PhD in Molecular Cell Biology at the University of Oxford, in both instances in the field of DNA damage repair. My PhD focused on the role of serine ADP-ribosylation as a DNA damage “first responder” and the impact of loss / mutation of some of its key actors on cellular survival.
