Profile of Kiran Hosein

I have a strong background in mechanical and software engineering and am particularly interested in the intersection of these fields. I enjoy applying this to my role and exploring the commercial aspects of these technologies.

Before entering the patent profession, I completed a master’s degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Edinburgh. This culminated in a project to develop laser-induced fluorescence apparatus to measure the spray behaviours of fuel injectors. Through this, I gained experience with optics, image processing, and manufacturing processes. I have also worked in a multinational engineering firm as an applications engineer, and in a technology consultancy as a machine learning engineer. In both roles, I developed and implemented predictive software models.

I joined the patent team at D Young & Co in September 2024. Since joining the firm, I have gained experience in the prosecution of UK and European patent applications.
