Net zero and healthcare initiatives: £30 million in grant funds available for UK based entities

For those qualifying entities, who must be a UK registered micro or small business, grants may be provided in the region of between £25,000 and £50,000.

The window for opportunity for applying for the scheme is limited, noting the scheme was only opened for applications on 11 July 2022, and the closing time for applications is 11am on 26 July 2022.

Although the scheme is most generally directed at initiatives relating to net zero or healthcare, particular areas of interest, which the scheme is interested to hear proposals on, include, in the context of net zero:

• user-centric low carbon heating and cooling solutions;
• energy generation, storage, management, and active user engagement approaches to energy efficiency;
• zero emission powertrain system development, and digital solutions to optimise transport; and
• environmentally focused manufacturing, supply chains and circular economy solutions.

Whilst in the context of healthcare, particular areas of interest include:

• prevention and self-management of lifestyle diseases using personalised, intuitive, consumer focused and accessible innovations;
• maximising the utility, safety and security of personal health records, including self-generated data;
• assessing new business models and routes to market for products and services related to self-care and self-management; and
• developing innovations that support self-management of mental wellbeing.

The scheme is primarily directed at projects with a near term start and completion, such that all eligible projects, which must be based in the UK, must have a start date no later than 1 November 2022, and must be finished by 30 April 2023.
